BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER has set his sights on a January move to the MLS after being told his Manchester United career is over, according to reports.

The German has held talks with a number of American clubs but is understood to favour a switch to either Los Angeles or New York.

United are ready to pay the former Bayern Munich star up to £10MILLION to get him off their books if they can find a club to take him in the next transfer window.

But Schweinsteiger, who earns £180,000 a week, is owed around £18m in wages with two years left on his Old Trafford contract.

If a settlement deal can be struck, Schweinsteiger could join a new club for free in January and would reportedly be willing to take a pay cut in the process.

The midfielder is one of EIGHT Old Trafford players set to be axed by Mourinho before the start of next season.

Reports claim Schweinsteiger never settled in Manchester and has wound up his team-mates with constant trips back to Germany and to watch tennis star wife Ana Ivanovic.

Yesterday German star Kevin Grosskreutz urged his former team-mate to join him at Stuttgart.

But Schweinsteiger hinted his future lies in the MLS in August. He tweeted: "MUFC will be my last club in Europe."

The former Germany skipper joined United in 2015 for £8m but made just 18 Premier League appearances in his first season as he was hampered by a knee injury.

He has now fallen behind Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin in Mourinho's pecking order.
