England 3 Scotland 0: Daniel Sturridge was the star player for the Three Lions but who flopped for Scotland?

Gareth Southgate's side eased past Scotland at Wembley as England made them pay for their missed chances

ENGLAND put in a classy display at Wembley as they strolled past Scotland at Wembley in their World Cup qualifier as they stay top of Group F.

Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for Gareth Southgate's side with an impressive header after 24 minutes, before Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill both added to the scoreline with headers of their own in the second half.

JOE HART - 6

HAD a fairly quiet time as he won his 67th cap.
It was almost an hour before Hart had his only real save to make — by which time the points were wrapped up.

Kyle Walker  - 6

SPURS man toiled against James Forrest on the flank and was continually stretched by the Celtic winger’s pace and control.
He got to grips with things once the points were secure.

John Stones -  6

BARGED off ball early on by Leigh Griffiths then slack with a back-pass in difficult early stages.
Guilty of being typically casual but blocked a certain equaliser from Snodgrass at 1-0.

Gary Cahill - 7

CALMING influence in the defence and ended any doubts about the game by heading in the third.
But a booking for a tug on Forrest puts him out of England’s next qualifier.

Danny Rose - 7

SHOULD have been booked for first-half dive but sent in a great cross for Adam Lallana’s goal and was a key performer.
Solid defensively and always enterprising going forward.

Eric Dier 6

HOLDING midfielder was guilty of plenty of wayward passes and did not have his finest night.
Got more into it after a ropey opening half-hour once England began to dominate.

Jordan Henderson - 7

HE was called upon by England to meet Scotland’s physicality head-on and led by example.
Was always keen to spray passes around and was a steadying influence.

Adam Lallana - 7

RETURNED after missing last month’s double header and broke Scots’ hearts with a brilliantly accurate headed goal.
Always looked menacing and imaginative, good performer.

Raheem Sterling - 6

BACK in the starting XI after missing games against Malta and Slovenia, Sterling also missed an absolute sitter with 20 minutes to go.
The referee also kept a close eye on his niggly exchange with Christophe Berra.

Wayne Rooney - 7

EVERYTHING went according to plan on cap number 119.
He saw a curling first-half free-kick deflected wide but cajoled and prompted, playing a true captain’s part. Booked.

Daniel Sturridge - STAR MAN 7

TOOK advantage of hesitation in Scotland's defence to head his eighth international goal.
Was always a problem to Scots before being subbed after 73 minutes.

FIRST competitive appearance for Scotland in seven years for the Celtic keeper.
Left helpless at first two goals and beaten by the power of Cahill’s header for the third.

IT was a first start of the term for the Derby man.
Miscued an opening for a cross after the break which summed up his frustrating night and he was subbed.

Grant Hanley - 4

POLEAXED by Sterling’s drive in build-up to opener, then had poor attempt at goal with free header soon after.
The Newcastle man also lost Cahill in the box for the third goal.

Lee Wallace - 6

FIRST start in a qualifier for six years for the Rangers full-back. Energetic and attack-minded as always but was overloaded as England charged forward, especially in the second-half.

Christophe Berra - 6

IPSWICH man hadn’t figured in any of the three preceding qualifiers but was handed a shock Wembley start. Started well but caught in defensive no-man’s-land for Sturridge's opener.

Scott Brown - 5

Recalled midfielder was dynamic and typically combative but was well-policed by England’s holding midfielders and didn’t have much of an influence on the game. Average.

Darren Fletcher - 5

Miscued early shot then sent another one over the top. No mistaking his determination to do well against the Auld Enemy but another who didn’t contribute meaningfully.

James Forrest - 6

On his first start for Scotland in over a year, he missed a big chance to score his first international goal after a great second-half move. Overall he did a good job getting Scotland up the park and England never looked comfortable against him.

Robert Snodgrass - 5

OVERCAME ankle injury to play — and sent in a series of teasing whipped crosses.
Saw his net-bound effort blocked by Stones moments before England’s second.

James Morrison - 5

WEST BROM midfielder made his 42nd cap and his first Scotland appearance in more than a year.
Despite scoring at Wembley in August 2013, he failed to make his mark this time.

Leigh Griffiths - 6

FIRST competitive international start since the home defeat by Belgium three years ago.
Striker should have played Snodgrass clear on goal at key moment. Booked.
