It is not known what Hughes, now 53, then 28, intends to do after discovering time-travel.

Reports of a modified DeLorean DMC-12 travelling at 88mph and arriving at Wembley Stadium in a trail of flames are so far unconfirmed.

Renowned physicist Dr Emmett Brown exclaimed "Great Scott!" when contacted by SunSport this morning.

An extremely agitated Dr Brown then warned that Hughes was in danger of destroying the entire universe.

He said: "I foresee two possibilities.

"One, coming face to face with himself 30 years older would put him into shock and he'd simply pass out.

"Or two, the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe!

"Granted, that's a worse case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localised, limited to merely our own galaxy."

Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest in the 1992 League Cup.

Brian McClair scored the only goal of the game after 14 minutes, in Brian Clough's last cup final.

Leeds would go on to win the First Division that season, with the Premier League's first season coming six months later.

Hughes, who scored 14 goals that season, was in the middle of his second spell at Manchester United.

He would score 163 goals in 473 matches for the club over his two spells, before leaving for Chelsea in 1995.

Hughes has so far been unable to comment.
