Luo Ning told a Beijing radio station: "We indeed made an approach for Rooney at the beginning of the season but he's informed us that he wants to stay in Manchester United.

"Rooney says he'll keep playing in the Premier League as long as his health allows. We even met with his agent."

Beijing Guoan approached Rooney, who earns around £300k a week and is under contract at Old Trafford until 2019, before the start of the current season but their advances were quickly rejected by the star.

The United skipper has lost his place recently under Jose Mourinho after a string of ineffective performances.
