It's claimed the FA have already told other candidates that the interim chief will take total control after the Spain match.

They're said to have been extremely impressed by Southgate's handling of dropped captain Wayne Rooney, and know that victory over Scotland will set England well on their way to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

However, Southgate is facing an injury crisis ahead of Friday's game after seeing Tottenham ace Dele Alli ruled out with a knee problem.
