HENRIKH MKHITARYAN has been told he “has to do more” to play for Manchester United by boss Jose Mourinho.

The Armenian has hardly figured for the Red Devils since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

He came off the bench as the Red Devils slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat in the Europa League at Fenerbahce on Thursday.

His replacement of Marcus Rashford for the final half hour was his first appearance for United since the 2-1 derby loss to Manchester City in September.

But after his ineffective cameo against the Turkish giants, Mkhitaryan was left in no uncertain terms by his manager that he must improve.

When quizzed about the attacker post-match, Mourinho: "He has to do more. It’s as simple as that.

"We have big expectations at this club, lots of players for these positions and he has to play better than Mata, Lingard, Martial – he has to play better than them. It’s as simple as that.

"Every manager wants to win matches, every manager in the world wants to play the players that he thinks can help the team more, and I’m no different."

Mkhitaryan will be hoping for another chance to impress when Manchester United travel to Swansea on Sunday, but after his manager's latest comments, it looks unlikely.
