And Bilic lifted the lid on the full details of the attack, which resulted in a dramatic high-speed chase across east London as the England star desperately tried to escape his assailants.

"He got chased for 15-20 minutes it wasn't like 10 seconds so it was probably planned, I know that and he was very brave to do what he did.

"He was brave because they asked for his watch or whatever with a gun, and he put the pedal down and he didn't want to give him the watch.

"It’s not about the watch but for me that’s very brave.

"He came back to the training ground and it stopped.

"He was targeted from that guy but as I said he's good, he's ok he's not in shock and he acted as a really great man."

Carroll was flagged down by the two bike riders in Chigwell early yesterday afternoon, demanding he pulled over as they waved a gun in his direction.

But instead of stopping, the former Liverpool and Newcastle forward embarked on a desperate attempt to flee and smashed into a series of cars as he powered his £100,000 Mercedes away from danger.

He eventually lost them after the high speed chase through the streets when he sped back into West Ham's Rush Green training complex in Chadwell Heath.

Bilic says the club will be providing any help the 27-year-old get over the nature of his ordeal

He added: "We can provide counselling, but the club is not ready for that, you don't have a rule in the club if that happened we're going to provide you with that.

"But whatever he needs, or any other player, we can provide him with counselling or service or whatever.
"Of course we’re all asking him the questions about that and he's smiling he's not in a state of shock, of course he's in a good environment now he knows its not going to happen now, but he will continue to do his rehab.

"He is progressing well, back on the pitch not with us but he's running and no negative reaction since he started his running.

"So in 2 weeks time we are expecting him to be back on the pitch with us."
