Mourinho, 53, was dismissed at half-time in Saturday’s goalless draw against Burnley for a verbal attack on Mark Clattenburg.

The 'Special One' was angered by the referee's failure to award his side penalty after Jon Flanagan's apparent trip on Matteo Darmian.

An FA statement confirmed: "Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct following Manchester United's game against Burnley on Saturday 29 October 2016.

"It is alleged that in or around the tunnel area at half-time he used abusive and/or insulting language towards a match official.

"He has until 6pm on 4 November 2016 to respond to the charge."

Mourinho will now receive an automatic one-match touchline ban as well as an £8,000 fine for the sending-off.

Should he choose to appeal the charge would then be able to take his place in the dugout against the Swans.

But would risk an extended ban should the charge be upheld - potentially ruling him out of upcoming home ties with Arsenal and West Ham.

Mourinho commented on referee Anthony Taylor before the game Liverpool last month

It's the second time in less than a week the United boss has landed himself in hot water with the FA blazers. The Portuguese was charged by the FA for making comments towards referee Anthony Taylor before the Premier League clash with Liverpool last month.

Mourinho will be on a watching brief from the stands at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea on Sunday. United are eighth in the Premier League looking for their first league win since September.
