Sergio Aguero: Pep Guardiola can lead Manchester City to the Champions League final

Forward reckons new boss can be the difference between reaching the semi-finals like last year and going a step further

SERGIO AGUERO believes Pep Guardiola can guide Manchester City to their first ever Champions League final.

City made it to the semi-final stage last year, only to lose to eventual champions Real Madrid 1-0 over two legs.

But after bringing Guardiola - a manager with experience of winning the biggest prize in European football, doing so in 2009 and 2011 with Barcelona - to the club, Aguero reckons Man City can go all the way in 2017.

Speaking to , Aguero said: "Obviously you learn new things every year and above all in you acquire experience, what it really means to play those games in the last sixteen, last eight and obviously in the semi-final.

"I hope this year we can continue on the same path.

“Let’s hope we can make it as far as possible. Obviously it’s not easy but we have a great team.

“Our goal is to reach the final, because the club invested a lot in hiring players, and a new project, with a new manager.

“The Champions League isn’t easy, but we are working.

"I don’t know whether it will be this year or the next one, but we are working on winning our first title."

Man City have got off to an indifferent start to this season's tournament, picking up four points from their opening three games.

After thumping Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0, they stumbled to a 3-3 draw against Celtic before themselves being humbled 4-0 by European giants Barcelona.

However, despite the shaky start, they still look set to qualify from Group C, sitting second behind only Barca.
