Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho redeems himself with classy gesture after heated Burnley draw that brings back memories of Alex Ferguson in 2004
Under-fire Mourinho congratulated every Burnley player after they held Manchester United at Old Trafford
JOSE MOURINHO might have managed to save some face after his dramatic meltdown during Manchester United’s frustrating draw with Burnley.
The United chief was duly sent to the stands at half-time of the 0-0 stalemate by referee Mark Clattenburg for protesting a penalty decision that did not go his way.
And he could even be staring down the barrel of yet another stadium ban after clashing with the official.
However, it can be revealed the Portuguese still found time to go into the away dressing room at Old Trafford to congratulate the visiting players despite the furore surrounding the match.
In fact, a report by the Manchester Evening News claims he shook hands with EVERY SINGLE Burnley player after their heroic defensive display put a massive dent in his own hopes of winning the Premier League title this season.
The gesture brings back memories of 2004, when then-United manager Alex Ferguson and captain Gary Neville congratulated Mourinho’s Porto players for dumping them out of the Champions League in the last 16.
That side would eventually go on to become Kings of Europe against all odds but not before being brought back down to earth by Ferguson, who swallowed his pride by going into their dressing room after the game.
Mourinho famously sprinted down the touchline in celebration at Old Trafford but Ferguson – although annoyed by the over-the-top show of emotion – still saw fit to praise his opposite number.
And some of that humility appears to have rubbed off on the newest man at the helm.
