JOSE MOURINHO has used his programme notes ahead of Manchester United's match against Burnley to make a dig at Chelsea fans.

The Portuguese tactician had a torrid time on his return to Stamford Bridge after Antonio Conte's side blew away the Red Devils in a 4-0 thrashing.

Mourinho is impressed with the attitude of the Manchester United fans after more than 75,000 fans came to support his side in their 1-0 EFL Cup victory over Manchester City.

But his praise saw him imply that United supporters love their club more than Chelsea fans do.

Mourinho wrote: "Never before have I seen such wonderful fans with such unconditional love for their club.

"The atmosphere here on Wednesday night was incredible. I couldn't be prouder to be manager of this club.

"When you see love and passion in the stands it also drives the players on... you could see that in the spirit of their performance."

This is not the first time Mourinho has criticised Chelsea fans, as he did so in 2014, whilst he was in charge of the Blues.

He felt the lack of noise from Chelsea fans during their 2-1 win over QPR made it feel as though Stamford Bridge was empty.

The Special One said: "At this moment it's difficult to play at home because playing here is like playing in an empty stadium," he said.

"When we scored was when I realised 'woah, the stadium is full. Good'."

The words in the match-day programme just add to the friction between Mourinho and the Blues after Mourinho gave Conte a brief talking to after their defeat to Chelsea.

Conte urged home fans to raise the volume in Stamford Bridge and this angered Mourinho, considering the score was already 4-0 in Chelsea's favour.

Speaking in Italian, he said: “It’s my opinion, but you do it at 1-0 — not at 4-0.

“That’s humiliation for us.”

After the match Mourinho was asked to reveal what he said to Conte and he gave a cagey response to the press.

He said: "It was fine, I was not expecting anything different here. The crowd behaved in a normal way.

"My words were with Antonio Conte were for him, not for you."
