ROMAINE SAWYERS hit his first ever Brentford goal to heap more home misery on QPR - and hand Bees their first Loftus Road win in 52 years.
The St Kitts and Nevis winger, signed for a song from Walsall in the summer, lashed home from the edge of the area on 74 minutes.
That was after fellow winger Josh Clarke has squeezed in an opener just before the break.
The Bees' win was soured late in the game when injury-hit midfielder Lewis Macleod was carried off an a stretcher, clutching his knee and requiring oxygen.
The result lifts Dean Smith’s men into eighth - and means Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s R’s have won just one in their last seven games at Loftus Road.
FIVE POINTS FROM LOFTUS ROAD
- JOSH McEACHRAN’S wonder pass in the first half reminded us of why there was so much hype around him at Chelsea. The former Blues whizkid cute chip to play in Romaine Sawyers was a thing of beauty.
- QPR are still as conservative as ever. Hasselbaink said in his programme notes that he wants his side to be a bit “cuter” in the final third but his cautious tactics must also take part of the blame for the team’s lack of goals.
- SCOTT HOGAN may be going through a relative dry spell but he’s still getting chances. The Championship’s top-scorer in 2016 has only one goal for this month - Brentford’s only goal in fact - but he could have had a few here were it not for his wastefulness.
- DAN BENTLEY’S throwing looks an asset. The Brentford stopper - who could have been playing for the R’s had Southend not rejected a bid for him two summers ago - teed up Sawyers with a bullet bowl-out.
- BRENTFORD have worked the lower league market to perfection. Sawyers, who netted a fabulous second, was plucked from Walsall for a song and is just one of a clutch of League One and Two bargain buys.
