Lille 0 Paris St Germain 1: Edinson Cavani hits second half belter to spur PSG title bid

EDINSON CAVANI broke the deadlock with a belting 65th minute winner to move Paris St Germain to within three points of French league leaders Nice.

The Uruguayan striker settled a game dominated by the visitors with a terrific strike.

Taking a clever ball from the highly-influential Angel di Maria on his chest, Cavani broke Lille hearts with punishing a venomous finish into the top of the net.

Cavani’s goal came just two minutes after he had so nearly given PSG the lead with another rising shot…only this one flew just over the bar.

Struggling Lille, having finally found some form with two straight home victories  having taken just four points from their first four matches, were on the back foot for almost the entire 90 minutes.

Only determined play from Julian Palmieri and Sebastien Corchia threatened to cause the visitors a problem or two.

In contrast former Manchester United winger Di Maria enjoyed a sensational first half, looking like he still has a massive point to prove.

He teed up Cavani with a wonderfully improvised flick-on at the near post, but the striker couldn’t beat his marker to divert a shot on target from close in.

Then the Argentinian sent a  delightful ball over the top to put Blaise Matuidi through on goal. The midfielder waited a second for it to settle, but his hesitation allowed Lille centre back Ibrahim Amadou to reach in from behind and poke the ball clear.
