Nathaniel Clyne to Barcelona: La Liga giants eye shock £20million January swoop for Liverpool and England right-back

BARCELONA are eyeing a shock £20million move for Nathaniel Clyne.

SunSport understands the Catalan giants want to bring the Liverpool right-back to the Nou Camp and have identified him as their number one target to replace Dani Alves in January.

Clyne's age - 25 - and pace make him a preferred option, with Barca having made the first steps towards striking a deal.

But any concrete offer from the Spanish side would likely require a mega-money bid to even tempt Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to do business - with Clyne's contract not up until the summer of 2020.

Dani Alves ended his eight-year stay at the club last summer and moved on a free transfer to Juventus.

Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal have been the men used by Luis Enrique to plug the gap this season.

But the Barca boss remains unconvinced by either and is looking at bringing in Clyne as his new first-choice right-back.

Barca paid £16m to sign Vidal, 27, from Sevilla in 2015 but he has apparently fallen out with Enrique.

Clyne has impressed since making a £12.5million switch to Anfield from Southampton in 2015, winning 13 caps for England.

He has made 12 appearances for the Reds this term, who are joint Premier League leaders along with Arsenal and Manchester City.

The London-born speedster came through the ranks at Crystal Palace before moving to Saints in 2012.
