Manchester United reveal new squad photo… But Bastien Schweinsteiger and FA Cup fail to make the cut

German World Cup winner's exile continues as Red Devils shun FA Cup for Community Shield

BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER returned to Old Trafford on Wednesday – but he still failed to make it onto the Manchester United squad photo.

The German World Cup winner has been cast aside by Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho.

He tweeted a picture of him in the crowd at last night’s EFL Cup clash against City, his first visit to the club’s stadium for months.

Schweinsteiger has repeatedly spoken of his desire to remain at United and win back a place in the squad.

But as the club revealed their new squad photo on Twitter, his hopes of a first-team return look slim as he was nowhere to be seen.

The Bayern Munich legend is under contract at the club until 2018 but looks certain to leave before that.

All 26 members of Mourinho’s squad were included in the snap, along with his backroom team of

Rui Faria, Silvino Louro, Carlos Lalin, Emilio Alvarez, Ricardo Formosinho and strength and conditioning coach Gary Walker.

Another notable absence on the photo was the FA Cup.

United lifted the trophy, the first major piece of silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, last season as they defeated Crystal Palace at Wembley in Louis van Gaal’s final game in charge.

The iconic cup, however, was not on show – although the Commuinty Shield sat proudly at the feet of Jose Mourinho.
