LIVERPOOL flop Gabriel Paletta was sent off for a horror tackle last night which cost AC Milan the chance to go top of Serie A.

Rafa Benitez brought the Argentinian-born Italy international to Merseyside in 2006.

But he was bombed out after just one season and eight appearances for the Reds - finding his way to Milan via stints at Boca Juniors and Parma.

It was not hard to see why last night after a mindless two-footed airborne lunge chopped down Luca Rigoni and left the Rossoneri down to ten men.

Paletta was fortunate not to escape injury after launching himself into a tackle which left Rigoni's foot planted on his leg, with his shin pad appearing to save the three-cap defender.

They were already one down, slumping to a 3-0 defeat after strikes from Nikola Ninkovic, Leonardo Pavoletti and an own goal from Juraj Kucka.

A win would have taken Milan above Juevntus and second-place Roma.

The defeat came as a blow to Vincenzo Montella's side just days after teenager Manuel Locatelli’s screamer sealed a vital 1-0 win for AC Milan over Serie A champions Juve.

The 18-year-old midfielder has only just broken into the starting XI and looks to be one for the future after making his mark at the San Siro.

He played all 90 minutes in Genoa but was unable to stop fellow starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma, 17, being beaten three times in Milan's goals.
