Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand’s Italian scoops ‘Restaurant of the Year’ gong

The England player turned TV pundit saw his fancy restaurant and bar pick up two awards on the night

FORMER Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand can now add two further accolades to his name as his Italian restaurant scoops TWO awards.

The former England defender's Manchester restaurant Rosso was named 'Restaurant of the Year' and 'Best Restaurant in the North West' at The Food Awards England 2016.

A spokesman for Rosso said: "The team and owner Rio Ferdinand are absolutely delighted to even be nominated by our customers and the general public but to then scoop two awards and securing such a title, they couldn't be anymore pleased.

TV pundit Ferdinand who retired from football in May 2015 after a stint at QPR took to his personal Twitter account to publicly thank his staff at the King Street-based eatery.

A bottle of Ferdinand's most expensive champagne, Dom Perignon 1995 6ltr will set you back a whopping £12,500.

With it's stylish setting and lavish cocktail menu, Rosso regularly attracts a host of celebrity faces from Manchester United players, boyband One Direction, reality TV star Vicky Pattison and Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley.
