The former England skipper, who signed for the Spanish champions from Manchester United for €35 million in the summer of 2003, was reportedly offered a commercial role in Madrid.

Given Beck's five and a half-year stint with LA Galaxy in the MLS, it was suggested that the 41-year-old would be integral to the Galacticos' ambitions to grow their band in the USA.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been keen to bring the club's former stars back to the Bernabeu in some capacity - from Zinedine Zidane as head coach to Luis Figo, Ronaldo Nazario, Roberto Carlos, who are also on the payroll.

Before hanging up his boots in 2013, the father of four enjoyed two loan spells with AC Milan before finishing his career with then Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
