Lionel Messi has best goalscoring start to a season ever for Barcelona
Five-time Ballon d'Or winner winner breaks personal record after scoring late winner against Valencia
LIONEL MESSI continues to remind people he is still going strong after recording his best goalscoring start to a season ever with Barcelona.
The 29-year-old scored a late winner against Valencia on Saturday and not only did he secure three vital points for Luis Enrique’s side but he also broke a record of his own.
Messi has had a number of dazzling season’s for the Catalan giants but none can compare to this season’s start as he has scored 14 times in 11 appearances, netting on average every 60.2 minutes for Barca.
The Argentine has started the season in such good form that he could go the whole match against Grenada next time out without scoring and still beat his previous best start, which was in the 2010-2011 season.
Something which has to be taken into account, which makes this statistic even more impressive, is that he now plays alongside two top class goalscorers with Luis Suarez and Neymar, who also like to get in on the act.
With Suarez having ten goals already to his name inside 13 matches this season, whilst Neymar has netted on six occasions within ten matches.
Messi’s last outing against Valencia ended in controversial fashion after he converted a last-minute penalty to win 3-2.
After scoring the Penalty, Messi reacted aggressively and allegedly swore at Valencia fans after Neymar was hit by a bottle.
