Liverpool 0 Manchester United 0: Adam Lallana shows his worth, Daniel Sturridge goes missing again and there was a return of the Anfield cat
LIVERPOOL and Manchester United produced a limp spectacle as the pair cancelled each other out on a disappointing evening at Anfield.
Neither side deserved to take all three points after a disjointed 90 minutes with little in the way of goalmouth action.
SunSport does it’s best to find five things of interest from Anfield.
1- The Anfield cat is back! (sort of)
IT says something when the appearance of a cat was more interesting than the entire first 45 minutes of football.
The black moggy was spotted scurrying around the United area during the warm-up, prompting cheers from the crowd.
But it wasn’t the same feline as appeared against Spurs in 2012, which stopped the game for a couple of entertaining minutes.
2- Liverpool miss Adam Lallana when he’s not on the pitch
DURING the frankly awful first period there was a lack of bite to Liverpool’s attack.
Their pressing game was off and Lallana’s usual high tempo chasing and harrying of the opposition was a big miss.
Each team failed to hold any sort of possession in that first period – with the longest passing move put together by either side just NINE.
After Lallana’s introduction on the hour, Liverpool looked a different team.
3- Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle
WITHOUT a league goal this season, the stage was set for Sturridge when he was handed a start by Klopp.
But the Kop striker didn’t get a sniff all night before being dragged off on the hour mark, after a performance bordering on the lethargic.
He took one touch inside the penalty area, which sort of sums it up.
4- David De Gea may be back to his best
THE SPANIARD made two superb second-half saves to keep Liverpool at bay.
First, he blocked well from Emre Can after the German had made half a yard in the box.
But his full length diving save to keep out Philippe Coutinho’s wonderful curling strike was world class.

5 -How times change
TEN years ago would you expect a match between Liverpool and Manchester United to be this tepid?
Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard et al, in their prime this derby was always played at 100mph with passion and importance.
But tonight, the action never raised above a whimper, never mind reaching boiling point.
