Arsene Wenger installs ‘injury reducing’ pitch at Arsenal’s London Colney training base

Gunners boss has turned to turf experts in France in a bid to end the club's torrid injury record

ARSENE WENGER has called in a Paris-based turf technology firm in a bid to quash the injuries that have hampered his side in recent months.

According to Natural Grass, Arsenal had been testing the AirFibr technology on the goalkeeper area for nearly two years before opting to roll out the 'injury reducing' pitch in April at their 58-hectare HQ.

The all-weather resistant turf is made of 100 per cent natural grass anchored in an artificial rootzone formed with sand, synthetic microfibers and granulated natural cork.

Although Arsenal became the first Premier League outfit to adopt the new technology and West Ham followed suit in recent months, the turf has already been in use at Real Madrid, Lyon and throughout stadiums that hosted fixtures during Euro 2016.

The Gunners boss is already without the services of six first team players through injury, including the likes of Danny Welbeck (knee), Per Mertesacker (knee) and Olivier Giroud (toe).

No one has averaged more early season injuries on average over the previous five seasons than Arsenal [14.2], according to research by , so it's no wonder Wenger has decided that enough is enough.

Ramsey has not played since the opening day of the season because of a hamstring problem and earlier this week Wenger admitted the midfielder was in a 'vicious circle'.

The Welshman is due to undergo a full pre-season in a bid to get him back to fitness and is unlikely to return to action until some time next month.
