Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tried to sign Sadio Mane when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund
Saido Mane signed for Liverpool in the summer but he was chased by Jurgen Klopp for some time before he even played in the Premier League
SADIO MANE has revealed he has always been on the radar of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Mane was playing for Red Bull Salzburg when Klopp tried to take the Senegalese international to Borussia Dortmund - but a deal could not be done.
"I was at Red Bull Salzburg and he tried to sign me - but it didn't happen and that is football.
"He is a good manager and he is someone who likes his players."
Klopp managed to get his man this summer for £34m when he signed the attacking midfielder from Southampton.
Mane has started life at Anfield well scoring three times in the Premier League already with Liverpool losing the only game the 24 year old has missed a 2-0 defeat away to Burnley.
Mane went on to say about his move from the Saints: "At the end of last season, he called me and told me he wanted me to come to Liverpool.
"I said straightaway that I want to come. It was the right time and right coach for me. I am very happy to be here."
Liverpool take on fierce rivals Manchester United on Monday night a team that were very much interested in buying Mane themselves a year ago.
United could not reach an agreement with Southampton when Louis Van Gaal was in charge and the chance was missed.
With Mane's current form Jose Mourinho's side will do well to keep him quiet alongside the threats of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.
It has all the ingredients to be a top quality Premier League encounter with both sides hungry to show they have the credentials to challenge for the title.
