Premier League injuries: Liverpool, Southampton, Stoke, Burnley and West Brom stars crocked on international duty
SunSport reveals six players who are all doubts for this weekend after getting hurt while representing their nations
PREMIER LEAGUE fans are rejoicing as the international break comes to an end.
England’s dull World Cup qualifier against Slovenia did little to inspire those already disillusioned by the disastrous Euro 2016 campaign.
But supporters everywhere can finally look forward to a weekend of blitzing top-flight action, which sees Chelsea face champions Leicester and Manchester United take on fierce rivals Liverpool.
However, some clubs are sweating on the fitness of players who reported back injured while representing their country.
Here, SunSport reveals six Premier League stars who suffered setbacks while on international duty.
1. Georginio Wijnaldum
Country: Netherlands
Club: Liverpool
Injury: Hamstring
GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM starred for the Netherlands in their 4-1 win over Belarus last Friday.
But the playmaker was forced off the field in the 1-0 defeat to France and is a serious doubt to face United on Monday night.
2. Joe Allen
Country: Wales
Club: Stoke
Injury: Hamstring
JOE ALLEN looks set to miss Stoke's home clash against Sunderland on Saturday after tweaking his hamstring with the Dragons.
The midfielder picked up the problem during the 2-2 draw with Austria and was absent as Chris Coleman’s men failed to beat a resilient Georgia side.
3. Ryan Bertrand
Country: England
Club: Southampton
Injury: Hamstring
RYAN BERTRAND was determined to prove his worth after filling in for the injured Luke Shaw and the unfit Danny Rose.
But the left-back had to be subbed after just 17 minutes against Malta and is expected to sit out Southampton's match against Burnley on Sunday.
4. Shane Long
Country: Republic of Ireland
Club: Southampton
Injury: Ankle Ligaments
SHANE LONG is facing at least two weeks on the sidelines after injuring his ankle during the 3-1 win over Moldova.
The striker opened the scoring but was forced off in the second half and will definitely miss the Burnley clash
5. Tom Heaton
Country: England
Club: Burnley
Injury: Calf
TOM HEATON was forced to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s squad with a ‘minor’ injury.
He was replaced by Sunderland ace Jordan Pickford but could make the starting XI against Southampton this weekend.
6. Darren Fletcher
Country: Scotland
Club: West Brom
Injury: Thigh
DARREN FLETCHER picked up his thigh problem in the draw with Lithuania but still played in the heavy defeat against Slovakia.
The midfielder is confident his injury is a very small one and will be hoping to line up for West Brom against Tottenham on Saturday.
