MUM'S THE WORD

Man Utd agree Adrien Rabiot transfer deal with Juventus but must thrash out personal terms with his MUM agent

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a deal in principle for Adrien Rabiot - but now face the task of thrashing out personal terms with his mum.

Veronique Rabiot is the Juventus star's agent and will be tasked with getting her 27-year-old son the best deal.

Rabiot is into the final year of his contract and is believed to be one of the players Juve were happy to let go as they strengthened in midfield.

United are looking to beef up in the centre of the park, a goal that became even more urgent after yesterday's alarming defeat to Brighton.

They have reportedly agreed a £15million fee for the midfielder that could rise to £20m.

The reports that Rabiot's agent mum is the "only stumbling block" to getting a deal over the line.

Once personal terms are agreed, Rabiot would move from Juventus after three years in Turin.

He has made 94 appearances in that time for the Old Lady and scored five goals.

The Frenchman made 28 appearances last season but now looks less likely of claiming first team football after Paul Pogba arrived, and Denis Zakaria and Manuel Locatelli grow in stature at the club since their moves.

Rabiot's mother reportedly urged Man United to bid for her son in 2014 while he was still at PSG and a move to Roma collapsed.

She is also known to be something of a character, having once confronted PSG manager Laurent Blanc in a car park.

United's move for Rabiot comes after weeks of frustration in their attempts to recruit Frenkie de Jong.

The transfer has proved far from simple, even before Chelsea got involved and the player's contract situation with Barcelona escalated.

It now appears the Red Devils have cooled their interest and are exploring other options.
