JOEY BARTON will not report back to Rangers on Monday as planned.
Sources close to the controversial midfield star have confirmed internal disciplinary procedures have begun.
That means he won’t return to the club’s training HQ for a make-or-break meeting with boss Mark Warburton.
The move appears to be another nail in his Ibrox coffin - despite attempts to save his Barton's career.
The 34-year-old was suspended for three weeks and banished for a total of four following a training-ground row with team-mate Andy Halliday and a bust-up with Warburton.
The former Manchester City and QPR man allegedly belittled last season’s Scottish Championship title win by saying: ‘You were playing against s*** teams in a s*** league’.
Since then the midfielder has been caught up in a betting scandal and charged by the SFA after allegedly placing 44 wagers on football matches.
Barton apparently placed the bets between July and September this year and has until October 12 to respond to the charge.
He spent last week in a boot camp in the Qatari desert to prove his fitness.
He won’t be at Auchenhowie for another week at least as his representatives pore over the paperwork in a bid to reach a settlement.
