Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could have joined Real Madrid in summer, claims Zinedine Zidane

Agent Mino Raiola convinced world record signing to choose Old Trafford over Bernabeu

PAUL POGBA could have joined Real Madrid in summer, says boss Zinedine Zidane.

Zizou was keen to bring fellow Pogba to the Bernabeu and his fellow Frenchman was believed to be keen to join, but the Galacticos were scared off by his price tag.

"It could have happened," Zidane told RMC. "There were conversations but it didn’t go ahead."

Real Madrid asked to be 'kept abreast of developments' by agent Mino Raiola but never made a bid.

And Raiola was key in Pogba's decision to choose Man United.

"Zidane wanted him at Real Madrid but there were another five or six clubs following him as well.

"Manchester United are now a lot stronger thanks to him, whilst Real Madrid are not," Raiola said in August.

Although with United now languishing in 6th place in the Premier League, some might beg to differ.

Raiola also said that there was no discussion about a move away from Juventus until after the European Championships, when Pogba went on holiday to Miami.

"I never spoke about the market with Pogba whilst he was playing at the European Championship, and then he went on holiday because he was very disappointed.

"It was only when I arrived in Miami was it when things were put in motion. He explained to me what he wanted. Manchester is his home."
