He arrived with the Portuguese deal-maker at Carrington in his £168,000 Bentley at around 10 a.m.

Ronaldo then sat down with his new manager Erik ten Hag and chief executive Richard Arnold for a meeting at 11.30 a.m.

The United chiefs reiterated Ronaldo is not for sale with Mendes said to be impressed by Arnold, particularly his willingness to listen.

Ronaldo also bumped into United legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Bryan Robson, who were believed to be at the training ground for a football board meeting with Arnold.

After that CR7 reunited with his team-mates and said hello to new signings Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.

Ronaldo was reportedly well received by the rest of the United squad who told him about pre-season and the close-knit group they have formed.

The Red Devils won three out of four games on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia and after hearing about their travels Ronaldo was ready to start training.

It is possible Ronaldo could remain at Old Trafford with his agent Mendes unable to find a suitable club to sign him.

Both Sporting Lisbon and Atletico Madrid are thought to be keen but it is unlikely either club would be able to afford him.

However, Atleti president Enrique has ruled out a switch, suggesting it is impossible for his club to poach the forward.

He said: "I don’t know who invented this story about Cristiano Ronaldo to Atletico Madrid.

"It’s definitely not true. "It’s practically impossible for him to come to Atletico de Madrid."
