IT’S no secret that Bayern Munich tried to sign Ousmane Dembele earlier this year.
The teen sensation was lighting up the French league with Rennes, attracting interest from several European giants.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal were all linked with Dembele as he plundered 12 goals in 26 appearances, but Bayern were thought to be in pole position.
However, the 19-year-old shocked the Germans when he announced a £13million deal with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund instead.
Thomas Tuchel led the charge as he convinced Dembele to join his exciting project, but reports claim there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
Spanish newspaper alleges that Bayern would have indeed beaten Dortmund to Dembele had it not been for a rookie error by technical director Michael Reschke.
It’s claimed that instead of talking to Dembele’s agent Marco Kirdemir, Reschke opened talks with his former representative Badou Sambague.
This costly mistake gave Dortmund enough time to get the upper hand in negotiations and quickly push a deal over the line.
Dembele has since scored once and provided four assists in his new surroundings, instantly becoming a crowd favourite, and Bayern are sure to still be kicking themselves following the cock-up.
