Man Utd AGREE £46m Lisandro Martinez transfer after Ajax accept second bid for defender

MANCHESTER UNITED have had a £46million bid accepted by Ajax for defender Lisandro Martinez, according to reports.

The Red Devils are keen to reunite the centre-back with his former boss Erik ten Hag.

Arsenal were also interested in the Argentine, but United are now well ahead in the race to secure his signature.

According to , the Red Devils have finally agreed upon a £46m fee with Ajax.

Their report adds that Martinez could join United's pre-season tour of Australia over the weekend, after being excluded from Ajax training this morning.

The Gunners had previously opened the bidding at £34m, while Man United's first offer was worth around £40m.

Martinez reportedly turned down Arsenal's advances as he wants to move to Old Trafford - with personal terms not expected to be an issue.

Former Man United keeper Edwin van der Sar, who is Ajax's chief executive, is said to have played a significant role in his old club's swoop for Martinez.

According to talkSPORT's , Ajax could look to replace Martinez with Rangers ace Calvin Bassey.

The seemingly imminent arrival of Martinez at Old Trafford will provide more competition for Harry Maguire - although the England ace will continue as Red Devils skipper for the upcoming season.

Martinez worked under Ten Hag for three years at Ajax.

Together the pair won two Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup.

Martinez, 24, is set to become Man United's second summer signing, following the £13m signing of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

Christian Eriksen is also on the brink of signing, having agreed to a three-year contract after snubbing Brentford.

Ten Hag remains desperate to sign Barcelona's former Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong.

United have this morning reportedly agreed a £63m fee with Barca, potentially rising to £72m with add-ons.

But they still face a battle to convince De Jong to move to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman, 25, is believed to be reluctant to leave the Catalan giants, despite their financial woes.
