Rangers midfielder Joey Barton charged with betting offences after allegedly placing 44 wagers on football matches
Former Manchester City and QPR midfielder charged by Scottish FA and could face lengthy ban from sport
JOEY BARTON has been charged with betting offences after allegedly placing 44 wagers on football matches.
The Rangers midfielder, 32, apparently placed the bets between July and September this year and has until October 12 to respond to the charge.
A Scottish FA statement read: "In that between 1st July and 15th September 2016, both dates inclusive, [Joey Barton] placed 44 bets upon football matches, and accordingly gambled upon football matches in contravention of Disciplinary Rule 31."
Barton was hit by a three week suspension earlier this season after a training ground bust-up following the Gers 5-1 mauling against Old Firm rivals Celtic.
His refusal to apologise to boss Mark Warburton means his future at the club is in tatters.

A hearing over the charge has been set for 27 October.
