Wayne Rooney touches down in Washington ahead of $1m-a-year DC United manager job – despite Coleen’s tears over US move
WAYNE ROONEY has landed in America after reportedly reaching a $1million-a-year agreement to return to DC United to become their new boss.
The 36-year-old is currently out of a job since stepping down as Derby's gaffer last month following their relegation to League One.
His move back to DC may not go down well with wife Coleen after she revealed during her recent trial that she "cried every night" in America due to "homesickness".
The couple spent two roller-coaster years in Washington between 2018-20.
SunSport recently reported how the Manchester United legend was being lined up by the MLS side after they axed Hernan Losada.

And now the Athletic's Pablo Iglesias Maurer has confirmed his new role.
Though he reported that Rooney will not be officially announced until he has required the necessary visa.
And that won't be in time for him to be at the helm for United's upcoming clash against Columbus Crew.

"Rooney, who starred for the club as a player, will be their newest manager.

Rooney, who spent two years at DC as a player after arriving from Everton in 2018, will earn at least $1m [£830k]-a-year at DC, according to .
He featured in 52 games in all competitions across his two seasons where he chipped in with 25 goals.
Derby then snapped him up in January 2020 on a player-coach role, before being appointed as their full-time manager a year later.
Rooney has been on holiday in Dubai and Ibiza recently with Coleen and his family in the weeks since the 'Wagatha Christie' trial with Rebekah Vardy.
He was set for an awkward reunion with ex-England team-mate Jamie after Derby announced a pre-season friendly with Leicester.

During his first stint in the MLS, Rooney was arrested in December 2018 for "public swearing and intoxication" after taking prescribed sleeping tablets and drinking on a flight.
He was held at Dulles International Airport after he triggered a door alarm following a booze and sleeping pill mix.
