FOOTBALL fans have joked Old Trafford hasn't sounded as loud in years as England's Lionesses kicked off Euro 2022 at Manchester United's stadium.
Sarina Wiegman's side opened the tournament against Group A opponents Austria at the Theatre of Dreams.
enter the competition as one of the favourites with Wiegman's women in great form.
The hosts are unbeaten under the tutelage of the Dutch gaffer - winning 12 of their 14 matches heading into the tournament.
And fans were in great voice at the start of the match with supporters hopeful of a first Euro final since 2009 where England lost to Germany.
Red Devils duo Harry Maguire and David De Gea were in attendance to cheer on England.

And fans were quick to joke that the atmosphere for England's clash against Austria was better than any United match from recent times.
Taking to Twitter, one user said: "The atmosphere at Old Trafford is better than it is for most United games!"
Another quipped: "Best home atmosphere at Old Trafford for a fair few years."
A third added: "Better atmosphere in the women's Euro game at Old Trafford than when United play."
