Adam Lallana injured: England set to be without Liverpool star for Gareth Southgate’s first World Cup qualifiers
In-form midfielder limped off with groin problem after just 23 minutes in 2-1 Premier League win against Swansea
LIVERPOOL star Adam Lallana is set to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s first England squad after picking up a groin injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Swansea.
The 28-year-old was replaced by Daniel Sturridge after just 23 minutes and is unlikely to make the cut for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
Lallana scored the only goal in Sam Allardyce’s single match as Three Lions boss, a 1-0 win over Slovakia in September, and Southgate will now have to reassess his options ahead of Sunday’s squad announcement.
Lallana’s injury is a huge blow for both club and country, with the ex-Southampton captain helping himself to three goals in the new Premier League campaign.
Liverpool are now anxiously waiting for a proper diagnosis and will be hoping Lallana’s groin is strained rather than torn – meaning he’d only be out for weeks and not months.

Speaking after Liverpool’s narrow win against Swansea, with the Reds staging an impressive comeback thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and James Milner, Jurgen Klopp confirmed Lallana’s problem would almost certainly rule him out of Southgate’s maiden England squad.
The German tactician said: “Adam has a groin problem and Dejan Lovren too.
“I’m sure they cannot go [on international duty] now. They will have further assessment and we will see. Hopefully they can use the time to recover and be back for the next game.”
