ERLING HAALAND went into the mid-season, World Cup break with a SIX-GOAL lead at the top of the goal scoring charts.
Coupled that with the time off he's enjoyed having missed out on the tournament with Norway, it's absolutely no surprise to see him a very short favourite to win the Golden Boot.
make the big Norwegian as short as 1/6 to finish as the top scorer in the division.
He's hit a pretty remarkable 18 goals in just 14 Manchester City games this season.
Goal scoring records are set to be smashed this season, particularly with City still chasing Arsenal at the top of the table.
There will be no room to rest Haaland, even with Champions League duty to come, too.
He went into the campaign as the 5/4 favourite with Betfair but nobody could have envisaged the start he has had - now a 1/6 shot.
Premier League top scorers
At World Cup break
- Erling Haaland 18
- Harry Kane 12
- Ivan Toney 10
- Aleksandar Mitrovic 9
- Rodrigo 9
- Miguel Almiron 8
- Roberto Firmino 7
- Phil Foden 7
- James Maddison 7
- Harvey Barnes 6
- Mohamed Salah 6
- Callum Wilson 6
- Wilfried Zaha 6
- Martin Odegaard 6
Harry Kane is the closest challenger in the scoring charts and betting markets, with 12 goals in 14 Spurs games.
Any other season would be a blistering start, so it's remarkable to see the England captain as big as 17/2 with Betfair for Golden Boot glory.
How might that penalty miss affect the Spurs striker? And is the gap to Haaland already insurmountable?
It certainly looks to be between the pair, with a huge jump to Liverpool pair Darwin Nunez (33/1) and Mohamed Salah (40/1).
Nunez is currently 13 goals behind Haaland, with Salah a goal ahead of him with six so far this season.
2022-23 Premier League Golden Boot odds
Betfair odds
- Erling Haaland 1/6
- Harry Kane 17/2
- Darwin Nunez 33/1
- Mohamed Salah 40/1
- Ivan Toney 45/1
- Aleksandar Mitrovic 55/1
- Gabriel Jesus 66/1
- Phil Foden 70/1
Salah won his third Golden Boot award last season, taking him one short of Thierry Henry's record, though matching that record appears unlikely this term.
Ivan Toney is the only other player to have hit double figures so far (10) and is next best at 45/1.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has started very well for Fulham, with nine goals already to his name.
He is 55/1, just ahead of Gabriel Jesus - injured on international duty and unlikely to feature for up to three months - on 66/1.
Phil Foden is next in at 70/1, though outscoring forward pal Haaland looks a tall order.
