But at just 21, he is still tipped to have a bright future in football after joining from Hajduk Split in 2014.

And with Conte meeting several times with Roman Abramovich in recent days to convince the club's oligarch owner to fund another spending slurge.

Pasalic played 22 times on loan at Monaco last season but the midfielder has found playing time hard to come by under Milan boss Vincenzo Montella.

According to  in Italy, the Croatian is at the bottom of the pecking order in Milan's midfield, with Suso, Jose Sosa, Juraj Kucka, Riccardo Montolivo, Giacomo Bonaventura and Andrea Poli all ahead.

But Pasalic's playing time was cut short at Monaco by back trouble last term.

The loan is costing Milan a cool £870,000 - but Montella has told Pasalic he will play more in the coming weeks, before being sent back to West London.z

His agent Vincenzo Horseman said: "He wants to play more and we are sure he will do so in the coming weeks.
