Fernandinho hails boss Pep Guardiola as he believes Manchester City’s strong start to the season will continue
THE Brazilian midfielder believes his manager's attention to detail is fundamental to success
FERNANDINHO believes Pep Guardiola’s attention to detail will ensure Manchester City’s season does not go on the slide.
The new Etihad boss prepares his players for matches by showing them a slideshow of their opposition.
Guardiola does not have long to get the screen up and get the information across to his players ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Tottenham.
But Fernandinho is sure they will be ready for the clash at White Hart Lane — despite seeing their ten-match winning start to the season ended.
A thrilling 3-3 draw at Celtic on Wednesday night is by no means viewed as a disaster by Guardiola’s players. The Brazilian midfielder said: “It’s easy to understand him during the game because he prepares us very, very well.
“The time we have to prepare for the games is very short, but he’ll show us the slides, so we’ll go to the pitch, we know exactly what we have to do.”
Guardiola is often animated on the touchline during games.
Fernandinho added: “When he’s on the touchline he’ll give us some information to change our position or to change something we have to do.
“It’s easy to change positions like that because we work every day. We work very hard and know exactly what we have to do on the pitch.
“He’s always trying to find a solution for us to move the ball quickly. He has his philosophy — a way to train, to play.
“He tries to show us how important it is to him. And also how he learned this when he was a footballer and then a manager.
“He tries to teach us during the training sessions and the games. We have good, clever players that are trying to absorb all those factors to put in our game.”
Fernandinho, 31, admits it is difficult, though, to keep up the intensity demanded by Guardiola all the time.
That was evident in the frenetic game in Glasgow. The Brazilian added: “The level of intensity is very high, during training sessions and games.
“It’s not easy to keep at that level, the same intensity every game. We saw that against Celtic.
“I think the boss is working very hard with all the players, with all the staff and we hope we can reach the level we all want to reach our targets.”
