FA chiefs are keen to hold shock talks with former Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick over the vacant England manager job according to Sky Sports.
The national side are in the hunt for a new gaffer after Sam Allardyce resigned from his post as Three Lions boss earlier this week.
And the FA are wasting no time in trying to find a long-term successor with Gareth Southgate at the helm for England's next four matches.
According to Sky Sports, England chiefs approached Rangnick after Fabio Capello was given the axe but ultimately opted to go for Roy Hodgson.
Rangnick's last managerial job came last season when he was at the helm of RB Leipzig and guided the side to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking.
Although he has never coached outside of Germany, Rangnick's most impressive record came at Hoffenheim when he secured back-to-back promotions to the Bundesliga between 2009 and 2011.
Rangnick is now second favourite behind Southgate to take the job permanently whilst Steve Bruce and Arsene Wenger are also in the mix.
The Arsenal boss said he "was flattered" to be linked with the England post after his side's win against Basel and is certainly an option with his Gunners contract expiring at the end of the season.
England play two World Cup qualifiers at home to Malta and away at Slovenia next month before taking on Scotland and Spain in November.
