Seb Larsson injury: Sunderland crock updates on his recovery from knee surgery

Swede international is on the mend but Black Cats suffer blow with Adnan Januzaj ruled out for six weeks

SUNDERLAND received a timely boost as Seb Larsson revealed he is making good progress in his rehabilitation from knee ligament surgery.

The midfielder has yet to kick a ball in anger for David Moyes’ strugglers this season after undergoing the surgeon’s knife in the summer.

Swedish international Larsson was ruled out for six months, but the 31-year-old has told the club’s website that his recovery is going to plan.

Larsson said: “It’s going really well. I’ve got no crutches and no brace on my knee anymore and I’m managing to do quite a bit now.

“So far it’s gone really well but obviously I’m very eager to push and do even more, so hopefully that will come shortly.

“When you play football you’re used to being able to move about and do things, so when you’re stuck in a brace and you can’t move very well it gets frustrating.

“After a week of that I’d had enough so it’s nice to be moving about and pushing in the right direction.”

Larsson joined Sunderland in 2011 and has appeared 134 times for the north east club.

An injury hit campaign last season restricted him to only 18 games, and he was hoping to enjoy better luck under Moyes before he was struck down.

The Black Cats were hit by another blow this week when Adnan Januzaj was ruled out for a minimum of six weeks.

He suffered an ankle injury in the 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The Belgian joins goalkeeper Vito Mannone and striker Fabio Borini on the long-term absentee list.
