FOUR LIONS

Hungary 1 England 0 LIVE REACTION: Tamed Three Lions suffer humiliating first defeat to Hungarians in 60 years – updates

ENGLAND threw away a sixty year record as they were disappointingly beaten by Hungary for the first time since 1962.

Reece James was harshly penalised for a soft touch on Zsolt Nagy in the penalty area within minutes of entering the frame.

And Hungarian talisman Dominik Szoboszlai welcomed the gift with open arms when he rifled his spot-kick into the bottom corner of Jordan Pickford's net.

But it's admittedly nothing less than England deserve having displayed a poor showing which will be a worry for Gareth Southgate as they have tougher opposition to come.

  • Kick-off: Hungary 0-0 England

England get the second half started.

The Three Lions will need to up their game to find a way through.

Anything but victory will be a poor start to their Nations League campaign.

Justin has been replaced for England with Saka replacing him.

  • HT: Hungary 0-0 England

Hungary have no need to change a thing in the second half.

They know that England will have to come at them to try and find a goal.

Just a point from their trip to Budapest would be seen as a failure for Gareth Southgate's team.

  • HT: Hungary 0-0 England

The home side will be the happier of the two teams.

Hungary weathered the early England storm and once they had managed to keep the visitors out, they began to grow into the game.

When they break at pace, with quick one-touch passing, Marco Rossi's team seem capable of causing England problems.

The more Southgate has to get his team to throw caution to the wind, it opens up the opportunity of a Hungary counter.

The referee brings the half to a close.

Nothing to separate these two teams.

Southgate may make some changes here at half time.

Their delivery into the box has been good so far.

The better of the chances have fallen to Rossi's side.

  • Hungary 0-0 England

    35. It is England who cannot hold onto the ball now.

The home side have decided to press high themselves.

Causing the visitors into unforced errors, gifting the ball back to Hungary.

  • Hungary 0-0 England - Szalai chance

    33. Big moment of the game for Hungary.

The ball broke clear to Szalai just inside the halfway line.

He had seen Pickford off his line and tried his luck from distance.

The ball just bending wide of the post, Pickford beaten.

  • Hungary 0-0 England

  • Hungary 0-0 England

    21. The hosts are struggling to retain the ball.

Even when they have tested the England back line it has been with quick, first time balls.
