Sam Allardyce quits: Best Twitter reaction as former England boss lasts 67 days and one game in charge of the Three Lions

English football rocked with the news but people are still finding humour with Gareth Southgate set to step in

SAM ALLARDYCE has been sacked as England gaffer after just 67 days in charge.

The ex-Sunderland boss was let go by the FA after being caught on camera trying to do a £400,000 deal with undercover reporters over third party ownership on players.

Allardyce also blasted his predecessor Roy Hodgson by mocking his speech impediment and hit out at Gary Neville's involvement as England crashed out to Iceland in Euro 2016.

With news that Gareth Southgate will step in on a temporary basis, Allardyce leaves the post with a 100 percent win record from one match against Slovakia and Twitter has unsurprisingly had its say.

BBC quiz presenter Richard Osman said: "Sam Allardyce is now a guaranteed quiz question for the next 20 years."

ESPN's John Brewin was also quick to state the facts of Allardyce's short reign by writing: "Sam Allardyce's regime saw his England team lead their opponents for a grand total of ten seconds."

However some Twitter users were more sympathetic for Allardyce after he lost his dream job whilst a number of names have been thrown about for the vacant role.

The FA suffered more embarrassment following the sacking after their official website crashed.

Allardyce has since released a statement issuing a grovelling apology.
