NO GLAZ-ING OVER

Man Utd protest fails to materialise as most fans stay put despite plans to walk out of final home game of season

MANCHESTER UNITED fans' planned mass walkout has flopped, with most deciding to stay in their seats during their win over Brentford.

A significant number of Red Devils supporters were expected to leave the Theatre of Dreams early in protest against the Glazers' ownership.

Fans had been urged by some of their peers to leave 17 minutes from time - marking the Glazer family's 17 years as Man Utd owners.

That was after many boycotted the first 17 minutes of their clash with Norwich last month, with protests also taking place against Chelsea last week.

The walk-outs have been organised by fan group "The 1958".

Monday's action, coinciding with Ralf Rangnick's side's final home game of the season, was meant to be hard-hitting.

Many supporters chanted "We want Glazers out" as the match entered the 73rd minute.

But very few actually left Old Trafford - with United coasting to an all-too-rare easy victory.

The Red Devils led the Bees 1-0 through Bruno Fernandes' first-half strike - before Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty made it 2-0 just after the hour mark.

Raphael Varane then netted from a corner on 72 minutes, prompting jubilant celebrations.

United fans had also just risen to applaud Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata off the pitch - with both substituted on what will be their final Red Devils appearances at Old Trafford.

Following their 3-0 win, Man Utd players completed a lap of honour - with fans giving them a good reception despite a harrowing season.

A number of anti-Glazer banners have been seen outside Old Trafford, while there was a protest march prior to last Thursday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
