Manchester City transfer news: Leonardo Bonucci still wanted with Vincent Kompany set for more injury hell
Skipper could be out for several weeks with hamstring problem and Pep Guardiola is eyeing Juventus ace in January
MANCHESTER CITY will consider a fresh move for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci after Vincent Kompany’s latest injury nightmare.
Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the Italy star and considered a move in the summer.
But Juve’s £50million price tag and the good progress being made by the injured Kompany meant they pulled the plug.
However the skipper’s latest comeback lasted just one game as he pulled up again at Swansea on Wednesday.
The former Hamburg man stayed with the squad at their South Wales training camp rather than returning to Manchester.
But there was no update on his fitness after he left the field at the Liberty Stadium holding his thigh.
Club medics are awaiting results of a scan - but the fear is he has a hamstring problem which will mean several weeks on the sidelines.
SunSport revealed in March that Guardiola had serious doubts over whether Kompany could be part of his long-term plans.
And although the new boss has been impressed by the centre half in training, the latest setback will have only heightened those concerns.
City allowed Eliaquim Mangala and Jason Denayer to leave the Etihad on loan last month - and have been using Aleksandar Kolarov as a makeshift centre back.
Guardiola has three months to decide whether to make a renewed bid for Bonucci - who he described as ‘one of his favourite players’.
The Juve man admitted last week he was tempted by the prospect of playing for one of the world’s greatest managers.
He said: “I did give it some thought. Guardiola’s insistence destabilised me a little.
“I did not speak to Pep directly, it was just an exchange of thoughts with my agent. It was tempting, but I decided to follow my heart in the end.”
