Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger eyeing £40m swoop for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema

KARIM BENZEMA may yet become an Arsenal player, according to reports in Spain.

The word is Arsene Wenger is planning a £40million swoop for the Real Madrid target man next summer - assuming the French boss is still at The Emirates.

But there are a few stumbling blocks.

FIFA have upheld Real's transfer embargo which means the La Liga giants are banned from signing players in January or next summer...a problem should they wish to replace Benzema.

And Wenger is scarcely known for waving a big cheque book and. striker-wise, signed only Lucas Perez from Deportivo la Coruna in the last transfer window.

And the £40m figure quoted by Merca Football for a proven international goalscorer would seem reasonable should he feel the need to replace Olivier Giroud at the end of the season.
