Wenger is refusing to gamble on him until he is 100 per cent fit again and plans to monitor his progress in training over the next few weeks

ARSENAL are growing increasingly alarmed over Aaron Ramsey’s fitness.

The midfielder has not played since suffering a hamstring injury on the first day of the season and is out of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea.

Ramsey returned to light training before the last international break, but has not recovered as quickly as was expected.

Boss Arsene Wenger is still unsure when the Welsh star will return and fears rushing him back too soon after all his hamstring problems.

Rambo, 25, had been carrying a minor strain going into their Prem opener against Liverpool and limped off injured.

Wenger is refusing to gamble on him until he is 100 per cent fit again and plans to monitor his progress in training over the next few weeks.

The Frenchman, 66, is also waiting to see if striker Olivier Giroud will be fit to return to the squad against Chelsea after a toe problem.

He has yet to start a game for Arsenal this season and was sent off in their first Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

Striker Chuba Akpom was thrilled to make his first Arsenal start in their 4-0 EFL Cup win at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Akpom, 20, usually operates as an out-and-out attacker but was handed a left-wing role.

And he declared he would play anywhere for Wenger. He said: “I’d go in goal just to get minutes, just to be involved.

“I didn’t mind being on the wing, I’ll play anywhere the boss wants. I just tried to be as much of a threat as I could.

“We tried to add as much fun as we could but the main thing was to still stay disciplined.”
