Liverpool hammer Tottenham Under-23s 6-2 with Danny Ings and Ovie Ejaria set for EFL Cup opportunity
LIVERPOOL’S Under-23s hammered Tottenham 6-2 – with Danny Ings and Ovie Ejaria likely saved for the EFL Cup.
Cameron Brannagan scored a double, while Harry Wilson, Ben Woodburn, Alexander-Arnold and Brooks Lennon were all on target in the romp.
Jurgen Klopp will lead the first team against Championship Derby in the cup third round tonight and could promote some Under-23s.
Whizkid Ejaria – who was on the bench against Chelsea – and Ings are now both in line to feature after sitting out.
But it was Brannagan and Woodburn who stole the limelight against Spurs.
Skipper Wilson opening the scoring with a third-minute tap-in before Woodburn produced a superb solo finish.
Brannagan and Alexander-Arnold were both on target before the break in a 4-0 rout.
Marcus Edwards pulled a goal back for Spurs before Brannagan – who played a role in four of the strikes – got his second.
Lennon added a late sixth before Spurs scored a consolation from the spot.
Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 on Friday night to continue a strong start to the season.
The Rams, meanwhile, are struggling at the foot of the Championship table despite huge investment in their squad.
