Watford vs Manchester United: Wayne Rooney faces fan wrath after Watford defeat with some calling for England captain to retire
Skipper had a shocker at Vicarage Road and supporters have savaged him on social media
WAYNE ROONEY faced calls to retire from fuming fans after Manchester United's third defeat in a week.
Jose Mourinho's side crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Watford as the Hornets recorded their first home win of the season and first over United since 1986.
And Rooney came in for special criticism after an insipid performance from the skipper.
His game was summed up late in the second half - with United pushing for a winner - when he swung an unchallenged cross high into the stands behind the Watford goal.
Fans were left stunned as United came out looking lethargic and should've been behind after five minutes when David De Gea presented Odion Ighalo with an open net, only for the Watford striker to shank wide.
Rooney played in a midfield three with Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba but failed to take control of the game despite a Marcus Rashford equaliser.
