But Sergio Aguero’s treble destroyed Monchengladbach.

And Guardiola admitted: “He is one of the best strikers I have worked with. He has a special quality in the

box, he is a very  special player. This was our most complete performance since I came here and I am very happy.”

City are top of the  Premier League with four wins from four.

But before last night’s clash, perfectionist Pep claimed: “Until now, in the Premier League it has been OK.

“But to compete against the best clubs in Europe, in this moment with the way we are playing, we are not able to.’’

This game had been delayed for 24 hours by Tuesday night’s storm.

Aguero — serving a Premier League ban for violent conduct — made up for lost time with two goals inside 28 minutes.

He bagged No 3 on 77 minutes and Kelechi Iheanacho netted the fourth.

City superfan Liam Gallagher tweeted: “It is a bird, or is it a plane? No, it’s Sergio Aguero again.”

Only 30,270 turned up  last night, though.  And City fans again booed the Champions League anthem as part of a long-running feud with Uefa.

Guardiola added: “What happened was before I came here but it is history now. The fans need to  forget these things.

“All we can do is to keep playing better to make the people who stay at home come to see us.”
