He has fallen out with a number of other important club figures most famously West Ham owner David Gold after he refused to sell them striker Emmanuel Adebayor in January last year.

Gold later wrote a cryptic tweet saying: "however no matter how hard you tried there are people out their that you just can't do business with. dg"

Levy was also instrumental in receiving a world record fee for Gareth Bale when Spurs sold the Welshman to Real Madrid for £86m - making a £79m profit.

And in an interview with French publication L'Equipe ahead of Spurs' Champions League clash against Monaco, Comolli revealed why Levy was so successful at driving a hard bargain.

He said: "[In negotiations] he never raises his voice, never gets annoyed. He can be very cold."

Comolli was at the heart of many of Spurs' transfer dealings including the signings Luka Modric and Dimitar Berbatov.
