Uefa delete ill-timed ‘happy Thursday’ tweet amid furious backlash after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
UEFA have deleted a poorly-timed tweet wishing everyone a 'happy Thursday' amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The official Europa League Twitter account posted the message on Thursday morning as the competition prepares to get back underway.
But they were quickly forced to remove the post as social media users furiously responded to it.
Russian president Vladimir Putin had confirmed the invasion of Ukraine just hours before.
And reacting to Uefa's tweet, one person said: "Do you really think it is a good idea to wish everyone a happy Thursday?!
"We have war in Europe (Ukraine) and it's one of the darkest days in the latest history.
"Sorry but f**k you for that!"
And another replied to the tweet by saying: "Really?!!!! Thank god someone there was awake and deleted this tweet, but sorry to say - you already made a HUGE mistake!

Meanwhile, Uefa are coming under increasing pressure to move the Champions League final from St Petersburg.
The match is currently scheduled to take place in the Russian city on Saturday May 28.
But there have been calls to relocate the game following Putin's move into Ukraine.
Earlier this week, members of the European Parliament wrote to Uefa boss Aleksander Ceferin, telling him: "Uefa must act now."
