'NO CHANCE'

Pep Guardiola says Man City not good enough yet to win Premier League or Champions League

Citizens kick off their Champions League campaign on Tuesday with a trip to Borussia Monchengladbach

PEP GUARDIOLA admits he did NOT end up burying the hatchet with Jose Mourinho over a drink and says City must improve if they are to win a major title this season.

The Manchester City boss faces a tricky task preparing his team for their first Champions League group game with just a three-day gap between their derby triumph and facing Borussia Monchengladbach.

When asked whether he and Mourinho managed to find time for a drink, which they had originally agreed to, Guardiola said: "No, we have a lot of things to do after the game.

"So we spent one hour with the radios, press conference and so on and so we have no chance."

And while time may have run out of Guardiola at Old Trafford, he claims the short turnaround for their Champions League clash is no problem.

When asked if he though it was impossible to win both the Prem and Champions League, the Spaniard claimed: "I will be glad to answer his question but United won the Premier League and arrived in the final of the Champions League against Barcelona twice and against Chelsea, so why not?

"Of course, we are so happy with the results and the way we are playing after two months. But it is not enough to win the Premier League or the bigger target of the Champions League.

"Now, after four games in the Premier League, I would like to tell our fans that the way we have played up until now, it will not one good enough to win the title. So we have to improve to win the Premier League.

"But it’s normal. All the teams have to improve, especially for the managers who are new – like United, like us, like Chelsea.

Guardiola's impact at the Etihad has been immediate, with the club winning their first six matches of the season while marrying style to substance.

Guardiola - who wore a £140 jumper from Stone Island as he faced the media on Monday - says that he is not willing to compromise his passing style, if and when the Citizens reach the knockout stages.

He added: "What do you mean give up your style? I try to convince my players to keep the ball because that is the best way to win games.

"Every manager in the world makes their ideas with their players because they believe that is the best way. I am not a romantic guy.

"When you achieve with the best teams in Europe and they beat you it is because they are good players or luckier than you. Of course I am going to adapt.
